Why You Should Move To Rathwood

Steven Ho Buyer, Mississauga

Who’s Moving to Rathwood?

I do a lot of business in Rathwood and many young families are moving into this mature neighbourhood. Prices in Toronto are becoming out of reach for many wanting to start a new family or just simply want more space yet still have a quick commute (around 20 minutes) to Downtown Toronto, Rathwood sits at the border of Mississauga and Etobicoke. This means there’s also just a single Land Transfer Tax to move to the 905. It has all the amenities you need in this mature neighbourhood with streets lined with big trees, many parks and trails. Rathwood also has a good mix of demographics as well as housing types. Great schools in the neighbourhood keep families staying here for many years.  It has become a great option for those looking to downsize or young families looking for a safe, peaceful neighbourhood to grow their family.

Community Features

The larger shopping plaza in Rathwood, located by Burnhamthorpe and Dixie, is home to the Rockwood Mall and many other amenities such as banks, clinics, pharmacies, gas stations and multiple eateries. The Burnhamthorpe library and the Community Centre as well as the Mississauga Library Theater are located across street.

The other plaza is located at Rathburn Road East and Ponytail Drive. It contains a Longos grocery store, walk-in clinic, Shoppers Drug Mart, chiropractor, Starbucks, a bar, and a Chinese take-out restaurant. This plaza is located adjacent to Miway’s #20 bus route, a convenient one bus journey for commuters travelling to or from Erindale GO, Square One Mall, Islington subway station or to Rockwood Mall.

Along Dixie Road you will find an abundance of restaurants with a variety of cuisine to be enjoyed. From kebabs to sushi to Thai food, the choices are endless!

Paths and Parks

Rathwood has a lot of greenery to offer to families and individuals alike. The multiple lush green parks add a sense of peace and serves as a relaxing escape from a tiring day. The Etobicoke Creek runs through a few of these parks, with plenty of paths to walk or bike on. One of the biggest parks found nearby is Centennial Park where Toronto’s annual ribfest is held. All year round, Centennial park has a golf course, driving range, arena with 2 ice pads, picnic areas, toboggan hills, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, Go Karts, batting cages, a beginner ski hill and 7 acres of marsh/wetlands and an 11 acre pond with lots of trails for you to explore and enjoy.

Rathwood Homes

The large single detached homes can be found along Bough Beeches Boulevard as well as a handful of other streets around the area. Tall trees combined with spacious lots creates a lush neighbourhood here at Rathwood. For those looking to upsize to a detached home, they go up to 3000 sq ft, making this is a viable option for many. Not only will you pay a  fraction of the cost paid in Toronto but you will pay only one of the land transfer taxes!

Townhouses also can be found along Rathburn Road East, for those looking for a smaller space to start a family or downsize from your current home. These well maintained complexes take a lot of the maintenance required in the exterior of the home, off your hands.

Schools

Rathwood is home to both public and catholic schools. Forest Glen Public School and Glenforest Secondary School. For those moving with younger children, and looking to enrol them into great schools, Glen Forest is one of them. Another option is St. Thomas More Separate School as well as John Cabot Catholic Secondary School by Burnhamthorpe and Cawthra road.  If picking a good school is a vital part of your move then picking Rathwood should be an easy choice.
