10 Books for your Holiday Wishlist

Steven Ho Tips

With the holidays come (hopefully!) a few days off for you to enjoy time with your friends and family. For me, it’s also a great time to get caught up on all the great books that came out this year!

Here are a few incredible options to add to your Christmas wishlist, or to buy for friends and family if you’re stuck for gift ideas!

10. For the History Buff

The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women

By Kate Moore

An incredible story about the women who contracted radiation poisoning while working in factories, and their groundbreaking battle for worker’s rights. Read about their courage and tenacity which changed history forever- and ultimately saved hundreds of thousands of lives.

9. For the Chef

The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Come and Get it!

By Ree Drummond

A book of incredible recipes that don’t take an entire day to complete! Ree knows that no one has the time anymore, and has created some quick but delicious food solutions that the whole family will love. This book is also the Goodreads Choice 2017 winner for best cookbook.

8. A Gift for the Poet

The Sun and Her Flowers

By Rupi Kaur

If you haven’t heard of Rupi Kaur, you must have been living under a rock! Rupi’s first book became a #1 New York Times Bestseller for her first book, Milk and Honey. This is her long awaited second collection of thought provoking poetry, which is described as a celebration of love in all of it’s forms.

7. A Gift for the Potterhead

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay

By J.K. Rowling

You’re probably familiar with this book already, as Fantastic Beasts was released as a feature film in 2016. It’s a perfect gift for anyone obsessed with the Harry Potter universe!

6. A Gift for Her

Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything In Between)

By Lauren Graham

Who watched Gilmore Girls and didn’t love it? Lauren Graham is her usually spunky, witty self in this collection of personal essays, mostly based on the diary that she kept during the filming of the recent Gilmore Girls Netflix renewal. It’s also the winner of Goodreads best humor award for 2017!

5.For fans of Horror

Sleeping Beauties

By Stephen King and Owen King

This is the newest release from horror master Stephen King, with help from his son Owen! The Kings write about a strange thing that happens when women go to sleep- and if they’re disturbed, they become feral and violent. The story follows Evie, who it immune to this phenomenon- making the question: is she a medical anomaly to be studied, or is she a demon who should be killed?

4. For the Social Media Savvy

How to be a Bawse

By Lilly Singh

For anyone familiar with YouTube sensation Lilly Singh, this book is a must-read. Singh is bold, genuine, and hilarious as ever. Using stories and examples from her own life, Singh proves that there are no shortcuts to success.

3. For the Young Fantasy Fan

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Ship of the Dead

By Rick Riordan

You most likely know Rick Riordan from his massively popular Percy Jackson series, but his Magnus Chase series might be even better. Did we mention Riordan has won Goodread’s Best Children’s (& Middle Grade) Book 7 years in a row?

2. For the Lovers of Dystopian Fiction

The Red Rising Trilogy

by Pierce Brown

This is an oddball on the list because the last book in the trilogy, Morning Star, was actually released last year. However, a fourth installment of Brown’s universe, Iron Gold, is being released in January, so get your friends and family to read and catch up with these #1 New York Times best selling books!

1. For the Sci-Fi Geek

Artemis

By Andy weir

You might already know Andy Weir from his massively successful debut novel, The Martian, which recently became a movie starring Matt Damon. This next book is not a sequel, but an entirely different novel starring a criminal called Jazz living in the moon’s only city. An amazing second novel, and one that will keep you reading late into the night.
