Ways to Give Back This Winter

Steven Ho Mississauga

December is all about the spirit of giving. However, we can get so caught up worrying about getting the perfect gifts for our close family and friends, that we can forget about those less fortunate than us. The winter months can be especially tough on those without homes or without enough to eat.

Here is a list of organizations that could really use some help this season!

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is an amazing organization that was founded in 1985 which works towards a world where everyone has an affordable place to call home. Your donation will help the organization provide decent homes to more families that need a hand. They also have international programs and programs that directly benefit Canada’s Indigenous families.

You can donate HERE.

Mississauga Food Bank

The Mississauga Food Bank is an organization which collects and distributes nutritious food to hungry Mississauga residents living in poverty.

Staff and volunteers from the Mississauga Food Bank will be around at local grocery stores collecting cash and food donations throughout December. Food can be donated at any time of the year at any Mississauga fire station!

You can also donate online HERE.

Oxfam Unwrapped

Oxfam is a global organization that aims to build lasting solutions to poverty and injustice with a focus on improving lives and promoting the rights of women and girls. You can donate at any time to Oxfam, and provide gifts for the needy around the world. Gifts can range from chickens and goats to digging wells, safe water, and school books.

Out of the Cold

Out of the Cold provides a warm, safe place for the homeless to spend the night, along with a nutritious meal, with additional support in way of clothing rooms, legal clinics, and laundry facilities. Out of the Cold Toronto relies heavily on donations, including monetary support, food, clothing, and other items that can support the homeless. You can donate one time or set up a monthly donation HERE.

And don’t forget, we are still doing our Toys for Tots drive here at Better Homes and Gardens until December 20th, so if you’d like to add to our growing pile, come by 186 Robert Speck Parkway during business hours (holiday hours are 9-5), to drop off some toys!
